How to plan 3 days in Tamarindo

  • Stay in Playa Langosta if you want quiet nights and cleaner tides; choose Tamarindo Centro if you want to walk barefoot straight from surf lesson to cocktail bar.
  • Do not attempt to walk across the estuary to Playa Grande; hire a quick $2 panga boat at the north end of the beach to avoid estuarine crocodile hazards and rip currents.
  • Reserve your 4x4 vehicle or golf cart at least 4 to 8 weeks ahead if traveling between Christmas and Easter, as local fleets sell out entirely.
  • Pair Tamarindo with 3 days in La Fortuna or Monteverde to offset the expat beach vibe with dense inland rainforest and active volcanoes.
