Our Method

The Right Trip Method.

Most travel planning optimizes for seeing more. We optimize for fitting better. This is the set of frameworks behind every trip Travel Itinerary Co. builds — and why a plan from us doesn't look like a plan from anyone else.

"A great itinerary isn't about seeing everything. It's about choosing the right things."

The five principles

01

Fit over FOMO

Most planning optimizes for seeing more. We optimize for fitting better. A day with two things you love beats a day with eight you forget.

02

Geography before activities

Before we pick what you do, we decide where the day lives. One neighborhood at a time means less transit and more being somewhere.

03

Budget is a constraint, not an afterthought

Every recommendation is costed against a target you set. If a day blows the budget, that is a design choice we surface — not a surprise on the trip.

04

The trip is for the group, not the itinerary

Kids' ages, dietary needs, mobility, must-dos and must-avoids all shape the plan. A schedule that ignores the people on it is just a list. If you're unsure whether your group actually travels the same way, it's worth finding out before the plan — The Trip Test is built for exactly that.

05

Iterate, do not finalize

A first draft is a starting point. Swap anything, refine any day, dial the budget. The plan gets better because you can change it.

Framework 01

The Trip Balance Score

Every plan gets scored 0–100 across five dimensions. But a score isn't a grade — it's a transparency tool. A 91 isn't "almost perfect," it's "this fits you well." A 72 isn't "bad," it's "we made trade-offs you should know about."

01

Pace

Does the day's intensity match how you actually like to travel — slow mornings or out the door by eight?

02

Budget Fit

Are the estimated costs living within the budget you set, or quietly drifting over?

03

Travel Efficiency

Are the day's stops clustered, or are you crossing town three times to tick boxes?

04

Preference Fit

Do the picks reflect your food, culture, outdoors, and nightlife priorities — not a generic top-ten?

05

Variety

Across the whole trip, is there range — a mix of iconic and local, busy and quiet — or is every day the same?

Overall

The average, weighted toward fit and efficiency. We'd rather show you a 78 with honest trade-offs than an inflated 95.

Framework 02

Neighborhood Clustering

Every cross-town trip costs you an hour and half a day. So before we schedule a single activity, we assign each day a neighborhood. Morning, lunch, and afternoon all live within walking distance of each other. You see a place — really see it — instead of passing through.

One zone per day

Each day has a home base. Transit stays inside it.

Logical sequencing

Morning near the hotel, afternoon further out, dinner back close by.

Less transit, more presence

The time you'd lose in cabs becomes time you spend somewhere.

Framework 03

The Budget Reality Check

Most budget tools show you a number. We show you whether you're actually living within it. Three figures, one status — and the ability to dial the whole trip toward saving or upgrading without rewriting it by hand. For a deeper look at what a trip — or a longer stretch of travel — realistically costs and how far your money can go, Travel Budget Co. goes further than we do.

01

Target

What you told us you want to spend — total or per day.

02

Estimated

What the plan actually adds up to, item by item.

03

Status

On target, under, or over — and by how much.

Framework 04

Fit, Not FOMO

The best day of your last trip probably had one thing in it. Not because you were lazy — because you were present. We build for that. Every item comes with a "why this" — the reason it earned its place in your plan. If we can't justify it, it doesn't go in.

What that means in practice:

  • Fewer, better-chosen stops per day
  • A reason attached to every recommendation
  • Swap anything that doesn't earn its spot
  • Improve any day in a specific direction — cheaper, more relaxing, better for kids
