How to plan 10 days in Brașov & Transylvania

  • Base yourself in Brașov's Old Town or Șchei to explore historic sights on foot before picking up a rental car for the rural leg.
  • Pair Brașov with a day trip south by train to Sinaia specifically to tour Peleș Castle, bypassing DN1 highway traffic.
  • Do not attempt to drive the Transfăgărășan highway between late October and late June, as heavy alpine snow forces full gate closures.
  • Allocate a full morning for the fortified church of Prejmer (just 20 minutes northeast) before tour buses arrive from Bucharest.
  • Combine the medieval citadel of Sighișoara and the unpaved rural lanes of Viscri into a single overnight loop rather than a rushed out-and-back day trip.
