What works well

  • Zero backtracking: clean linear route from El Mercadillo across Puente Nuevo into La Ciudad and down to the gorge base.
  • Protects food quality by dodging the tourist-trap terraces perched immediately over the chasm.
  • Times the steep gravel descent into El Tajo for late afternoon when the gorge walls catch golden hour light.

What we would improve

  • The hike back up from the base of the gorge involves steep cobblestones and unpaved trail sections, which requires sturdy walking shoes.
  • With only 1 day, outlying wine estates (bodegas) in the Serranía de Ronda had to be omitted in favor of town-center highlights.
