Yangshuo trades the concrete sprawl of Guilin for dramatic limestone peaks rising straight out of emerald rice paddies and winding rivers. While its town center around West Street runs hot with domestic tour buses and loud neon bars, the true draw lies outside town along the Yulong River and rural valley roads. It remains one of the premier hubs in East Asia for active outdoor exploration, easygoing cycling routes, and world-class sport climbing.

How to plan 4 days in Yangshuo, China
- Stay along the Yulong River Valley if you want quiet mornings and immediate trail access; stay in central Yangshuo only if walkable late-night dining outweighs loud bar music.
- Arrive via Yangshuo Railway Station if coming by high-speed rail, but note the station is located in Xingping, roughly 45 minutes by taxi or feeder bus from Yangshuo town proper.
- Hire an e-bike from your guesthouse for 30–50 RMB per day to cruise the Ten-Mile Gallery rather than taking tour buses or walking the shoulder of the highway.
- Book a sunrise private driver to Xianggong Mountain (Xianggongshan) at least one day ahead; the short 15-minute stair climb rewards you with the quintessential morning karst-and-river panorama.
- Don't cram a Longji Rice Terraces day trip into a short stay; it requires a 3.5 to 4-hour one-way drive from Yangshuo, making it far better suited as an overnight stop between Yangshuo and Guilin.
