Carved deep into the jagged karst of northern Albania's Accursed Mountains (Bjeshkët e Nemuna), Theth is an isolated alpine basin that feels severed from modern Europe. Centered around a classic alpine valley of stone kulla houses, rushing glacial rivers, and dramatic limestone towers, the village serves as the western terminus of the legendary cross-pass trek to Valbona. While paved road access from Shkodër has modernized arrival, life here remains rooted in highland pastoralism and Kanun hospitality.

How to plan 4 days in Theth & the Accursed Mountains, Albania
- Dedicate 4 full days to the loop: Day 1 transit Shkodër to Theth, Day 2 local valley exploration (Blue Eye & Waterfall), Day 3 Valbona Pass hike, Day 4 Lake Koman ferry back to Shkodër.
- Don't attempt to hike the Valbona Pass and do the Blue Eye of Kaprre on the same day; each demands 6 to 8 hours of dedicated trail time.
- Book your high-season (July–August) family guesthouses at least 4 to 6 weeks in advance, as valley capacity is finite and fills quickly with international hikers.
- Hire an off-road taxi from Theth center to Nderlysaj (€25–€30 roundtrip) if you want to shave 10 km of dusty gravel walking off your round-trip hike to the Blue Eye.
- Schedule your Lake Koman ferry crossing for the early morning departure (typically 09:00 from Fierza) to catch the best lighting through the limestone fjord gorges.
