A 10-day trip to Soča Valley
Emerald alpine rapids, limestone gorges, and poignant World War I mountain ridges.
Carved by the vivid turquoise ribbon of the Soča River between Triglav National Park and the Italian border, the Soča Valley is Slovenia's premier outdoor playground and open-air history corridor. Ranging from high-alpine whitewater outposts in Bovec down through the somber World War I Isonzo Front battlefields of Kobarid to the lush Mediterranean-tinged gorges of Tolmin, it combines technical outdoor sports with world-class Alpine-Adriatic gastronomy.

Best time to go
June or September offer peak river clarity, comfortable mountain trails, and empty roads.
What your 10-day plan includes
- A day-by-day itinerary with neighborhoods clustered so you spend less time in transit.
- Real budget awareness — a target, an estimate, and a status you can dial up or down.
- Recommendations shaped by your pace, food priorities, group, and must-dos.
- Swap anything, improve any day, refine in any direction without starting over.
How to plan 10 days in Soča Valley
- Base yourself in Bovec for whitewater adrenaline, but sleep in Kobarid if dinner and quiet historical trails drive your trip.
- Do not attempt Vršič Pass, the Great Soča Gorge, and Slap Kozjak in a single afternoon—mountain driving and gorge parking take double the estimated GPS time.
- If arriving from Lake Bohinj, take the Avtovlak car train through the mountain tunnel to Most na Soči to skip two hours of switchback driving.
- Book Hiša Franko or Hiša Polonka table reservations well before you confirm your non-refundable accommodation.
- Reserve your morning entry slot for Tolmin Gorges during July and August to avoid waiting at the canyon rim under midday sun.
