San Sebastián

Spain

A 2-day trip to San Sebastián

San Sebastián is a bay, three beaches, and the highest concentration of Michelin stars on Earth.

San Sebastián (Donostia) is the Basque Country's elegant seaside city — a perfect bay, Belle Époque architecture, and the pintxo bar culture that makes it one of the world's great food cities. Eat pintxos in the Parte Vieja, walk Monte Igueldo, and accept that you'll eat better here than almost anywhere.

What your 2-day plan includes

  • A day-by-day itinerary with neighborhoods clustered so you spend less time in transit.
  • Real budget awareness — a target, an estimate, and a status you can dial up or down.
  • Recommendations shaped by your pace, food priorities, group, and must-dos.
  • Swap anything, improve any day, refine in any direction without starting over.

How to plan 2 days in San Sebastián

  • Stay in Centro or Gros instead of Parte Vieja if uninterrupted sleep matters more than stepping out directly into bar crowds.
  • Book your high-end Michelin lunch or dinner reservation 90 to 180 days out before finalizing flights or trains.
  • Never spend an entire evening in one pintxo bar; plan to visit three or four, ordering one signature item and one drink at each stop.
  • Pair your trip with Bilbao: take the direct 75-minute ALSA bus straight from Bilbao Airport (BIO) instead of flying into San Sebastián's limited domestic airstrip.
  • Do not rent a car until the day you check out to explore the Basque coast, Hondarribia, or the French Basque towns of Saint-Jean-de-Luz and Biarritz.
