A 10-day trip to Montego Bay

Montego Bay is Jamaica's resort coast — beaches, jerk, and the gateway to Negril and the Blue Mountains.

Montego Bay is Jamaica's main tourist hub — beaches, resorts, and Doctor's Cave Beach, with Negril's cliffs an hour west and Ocho Rios east. Eat jerk chicken, swim, and take a day trip to the Blue Mountains or a river raft. Best December–April; it's the easy Jamaica beach trip.

Best time to go

Mid-December through April for reliable sunshine, dry roads, and calm water.

What your 10-day plan includes

  • A day-by-day itinerary with neighborhoods clustered so you spend less time in transit.
  • Real budget awareness — a target, an estimate, and a status you can dial up or down.
  • Recommendations shaped by your pace, food priorities, group, and must-dos.
  • Swap anything, improve any day, refine in any direction without starting over.

How to plan 10 days in Montego Bay

  • Stay along Jimmy Cliff Boulevard (Hip Strip) if you want to walk to dinner and beaches; choose Rose Hall if you want self-contained golf and mega-resorts.
  • Do not book full-day excursions to Kingston or the Blue Mountains if you only have a 3-day weekend—the 4-hour one-way drive across winding mountain roads eats an entire day.
  • Pair a bamboo raft ride on the Martha Brae River with an evening tour of the bioluminescent waters at Glistening Waters in Falmouth, just 35 minutes east.
  • Book the Club Mobay VIP airport lounge service 3 to 4 weeks before landing to bypass the notoriously long passport-control queues at Sangster International Airport during peak winter weekends.
  • Take an afternoon trip 20 minutes inland into the Anchovy hills to Rocklands Bird Sanctuary, where wild hummingbirds land directly on your finger to drink sugar water.
