Mekong Delta

A 10-day trip to Mekong Delta

Slow-flowing waterways, sleepy fruit orchards, and sunrise floating commerce.

The Mekong Delta is Vietnam's agricultural heartland, a sprawling, flat labyrinth of mangrove canals, silt-laden river distributaries, and endless rice paddies. Rather than a singular urban destination, it operates as a network of riverine towns, riverside farmstays, and fruit orchards where daily commerce is dictated by the rise and fall of the river tides.

What your 10-day plan includes

  • A day-by-day itinerary with neighborhoods clustered so you spend less time in transit.
  • Real budget awareness — a target, an estimate, and a status you can dial up or down.
  • Recommendations shaped by your pace, food priorities, group, and must-dos.
  • Swap anything, improve any day, refine in any direction without starting over.

How to plan 10 days in Mekong Delta

  • Stay at a countryside farmstay along the Ben Tre canals rather than downtown My Tho if you want peace and car-free bike paths directly from your door.
  • Pair Can Tho with Chau Doc over 3 to 4 days if you plan to catch the international passenger speedboats crossing upstream into Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
  • Do not try to combine Cai Rang floating market, Sa Dec, and Chau Doc into one day; inter-town bus transfers and ferry crossings move at a deliberate, slow pace.
  • Reserve Tra Su Cajuput Forest for late afternoon (between 3:30 PM and 5:00 PM) when thousands of roosting egrets and storks return to the canopy.
  • Book boutique river lodges and high-demand family farmstays at least 3 to 4 weeks ahead if visiting during the December-to-January festive season.
