A 5-day trip to Margaret River
World-class maritime cabernet, towering karri forests, and raw Indian Ocean breaks.
Stretching roughly 130 kilometers from Cape Naturaliste in the north down to Cape Leeuwin in the south, the Margaret River region is much more than a wine enclave. It is an ancient biodiversity hotspot where Mediterranean-climate vineyards sit within a 15-minute drive of rugged coastal cliffs, cavernous limestone caves, and ancient towering karri forests. While famous for elegant Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon, its true appeal lies in pairing cellar doors with remote sections of the Cape to Cape Track, calm turquoise swimming coves, and artisanal dairy and olive groves.

How to plan 5 days in Margaret River
- Cluster your days geographically: dedicate one full day to northern Dunsborough and Yallingup, one day to central Wilyabrup wineries, and one full day south toward Boranup Forest and Augusta.
- Pair a morning walk on the rugged clifftops of the Cape to Cape Track near Conto Beach or Canal Rocks with an unhurried, multi-course estate lunch to avoid mid-afternoon heat and fatigue.
- Do not attempt to drive from Perth, tour three cellar doors, and visit Cape Leeuwin in a single day; it creates five hours of windshield time and ruins the relaxed pace of the cape.
- Book estate restaurant long lunches between 12:00 PM and 1:30 PM, as almost all premier winery kitchens shut completely by 3:30 PM.
- If you want to taste without designated driver friction, book a local tour operator for your primary wine day and use your rental car for nature trails, caves, and beaches.
