How to plan 7 days in Manali, Himachal Pradesh

  • Stay in Old Manali or the Log Huts area if you value quiet pine forests and cafe culture; avoid basing yourself on Mall Road unless you must be right beside the bus terminal.
  • Do not attempt Rohtang Pass and Solang Valley on your arrival day; rest at 2,050 meters for 24 hours to acclimatize before pushing past 3,000 meters.
  • Pair your Manali stay with an overnight in Naggar or a traverse through the Atal Tunnel to Sissu for a contrast between cedar-clad valleys and trans-Himalayan desert landscapes.
  • Reserve your Rohtang Pass vehicle permit at least 3 to 6 days ahead through the Himachal tourism portal if you want to visit the summit pass rather than the tunnel.
  • Plan your day trip returns from Solang or Atal Tunnel before 3 PM to avoid sitting in multi-hour standstill traffic jams on the narrow bridge leading into town.
