Spain
A 7-day trip to Madrid
Unrivaled European art collections, neighborhood tapas culture, and an authentic late-night cadence.
Madrid is Spain’s cultural and administrative anchor, distinguished not by seaside beaches or fairytale facades, but by world-class fine art, leafy public boulevards, and one of Europe’s most vibrant neighborhood dining cultures. From the Golden Triangle of Art along Paseo del Prado to the historic alleys of La Latina and the boutique-lined residential avenues of Chamberí, Madrid rewards travelers who adapt to its leisurely afternoon rhythms and dusk-to-dawn social pace.

How to plan 7 days in Madrid
- Anchor your lodging in Barrio de las Letras or Chamberí: Letras puts you on foot to museums without the tourist chaos of Sol, while Chamberí offers pure neighborhood tranquility.
- Do not book the Prado and the Reina Sofía on the same day; museum fatigue will spoil the second stop. Split them across separate mornings.
- Schedule high-speed rail day trips to Toledo (from Atocha) or Segovia (from Chamartín) midweek rather than weekends to dodge massive domestic commuter queues.
- Reserve the Royal Palace for the earliest 10:00 AM slot before the tour bus waves arrive, then walk immediately into the Sabatini Gardens.
- Designate Sunday morning for strolling El Retiro Park and watching the street buskers, but skip the overwhelming crowds of El Rastro flea market unless you enjoy shoulder-to-shoulder jostling.
