Beyond the timber-framed Naxi courtyards and rushing canal networks, Lijiang serves as an acclimation base for high-altitude excursions up Jade Dragon Snow Mountain and onward treks through Tiger Leaping Gorge.

How to plan 10 days in Lijiang, China
- Base yourself in Shuhe or Baisha if you cannot tolerate loud acoustic bars, souvenir megaphones, and heavy evening crowds.
- Pair Lijiang with Dali to the south (2 hours by high-speed rail) and Shangri-La to the north (1.5 hours by high-speed rail) to follow the historic Tea Horse Road.
- Do not try to combine Jade Dragon Snow Mountain's Glacier Park and Tiger Leaping Gorge into the same calendar day; travel times and high-altitude exhaustion make this impractical.
- Visit Black Dragon Pool Park before 8:00 AM when the morning water is dead calm for the classic reflection shot of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain with Moon Embracing Pavilion.
- Explore Dayan's core alleys between 6:30 AM and 9:00 AM before retail shutters open to experience the stone canals and Naxi grandmothers sweeping stone steps in relative solitude.
