A 4-day trip to Jaipur

Jaipur is the Pink City — forts on hills, a palace of windows, and the gateway to Rajasthan.

Jaipur is the capital of Rajasthan and India's most photogenic big city — a walled old town painted terracotta-pink, with hilltop forts, a palace of thousands of windows, and bazaars built for royalty.

It's the first stop of India's Golden Triangle (Delhi–Agra–Jaipur) and the gateway to Rajasthan's desert forts and palaces. Two days covers the city; add a day trip to Amber Fort and the stepwells.

It's hot, crowded, and overwhelming in the way North India is — go early, hire a guide for the forts, and embrace the chaos. October–March is the season; summer is brutal.

  • Recommendations shaped by your pace, food priorities, group, and must-dos.
  • Swap anything, improve any day, refine in any direction without starting over.

How to plan 4 days in Jaipur

  • Hire a driver for the day — Amber Fort, the forts above the city, and the stepwells in one loop.
  • Go to Amber Fort early — the elephants and the crowds arrive mid-morning.
  • Shop in the Old City bazaars — block printing, jewelry, and textiles Jaipur is famous for.
  • Women should dress modestly (cover shoulders and knees), especially at forts and temples.
  • Carry cash — small shops and tuk-tuks are cash-only.
