Galápagos Islands

Ecuador

A 7-day trip to Galápagos Islands

The Galápagos is evolution in the wild — fearless wildlife, volcanic islands, and Darwin's living laboratory.

The Galápagos Islands are the world's most extraordinary wildlife destination — a volcanic archipelago 1,000km off Ecuador where animals evolved without fear of humans, and you walk among iguanas, boobies, and giant tortoises.

The way to see it is a cruise (4–8 days) that moves between islands, or land-based day tours from Santa Cruz or Isabela. Cruises see more; land-based is cheaper and more flexible. Either way, you're in a strictly protected national park — a naturalist guide is required on landings.

It's expensive, and it's worth it. Go in the cool dry season (June–December) for the best wildlife activity, or the warm wet season (January–May) for calmer water and snorkeling.

What your 7-day plan includes

  • A day-by-day itinerary with neighborhoods clustered so you spend less time in transit.
  • Real budget awareness — a target, an estimate, and a status you can dial up or down.
  • Recommendations shaped by your pace, food priorities, group, and must-dos.
  • Swap anything, improve any day, refine in any direction without starting over.

How to plan 7 days in Galápagos Islands

  • Choose cruise vs. land-based early — cruises see more islands, land-based is cheaper and flexible.
  • Book cruises months ahead, especially the smaller (better) boats.
  • Snorkel every chance you get — the underwater life is half the Galápagos.
  • Respect the rules — stay on trails, don't touch wildlife, keep 2m distance. It's a protected park.
  • Pack reef-safe sunscreen and layers; the equator sun is strong even when it's cool.
