How to plan 3 days in Columbia River Gorge, Oregon & Washington
- Stay in Downtown Hood River if you want to walk to dinner and breweries after long trail days without getting back in your car.
- Do not try to combine the entire Waterfall Corridor and the Hood River Fruit Loop on the same day; split them west-to-east to avoid rushing.
- Pair your Gorge trip with an ascent up Oregon Route 35 to Mount Hood and Timberline Lodge for a complete mountain-and-canyon loop back to Portland.
- Reserve summer Multnomah Falls timed-use permits up to two weeks in advance on Recreation.gov if arriving by private vehicle between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m.
- Cross between Oregon and Washington using the Bridge of the Gods at Cascade Locks or the Hood River–White Salmon toll bridge to explore Highway 14.
