A 4-day trip to St. Moritz

High-altitude Engadine alpine elegance, world-class winter sports, and sparkling lakeside trails

Perched at 1,856 meters in the dramatic Engadine valley, St. Moritz is the historical birthplace of winter alpine tourism. Beyond its luxury reputation, it delivers serious outdoor infrastructure: steep descents from Piz Nair, pristine cross-country tracks across frozen lakes, and high-alpine summer hiking against raw granite peaks.

Trip length

4 days

Best time to go

Mid-January to late March for pristine winter powder; July to September for cool alpine hiking and crystal-clear lakes.

What your 4-day plan includes

  • A day-by-day itinerary with neighborhoods clustered so you spend less time in transit.
  • Real budget awareness — a target, an estimate, and a status you can dial up or down.
  • Recommendations shaped by your pace, food priorities, group, and must-dos.
  • Swap anything, improve any day, refine in any direction without starting over.

How to plan 4 days in St. Moritz

  • Stay in St. Moritz Dorf if you prioritize walking to nightlife and the Corviglia funicular; pick St. Moritz Bad if you want flat walks to cross-country trails and the Ovaverva spa.
  • Pair St. Moritz with the Glacier Express toward Zermatt or take the UNESCO-listed Bernina Express day trip over the Bernina Pass down to Tirano, Italy.
  • Do not attempt to tackle both Corviglia and Diavolezza/Lagalb on the same day; they sit on opposite sides of the valley and each deserve a dedicated half or full day.
  • Reserve the Muottas Muragl funicular and mountain restaurant for sunset well in advance to catch golden hour over the entire Upper Engadine lake plateau.
  • If traveling in early winter or late spring, confirm individual cable car and gondola maintenance schedules before locking in lodging dates.
