How to plan 5 days in Luxor, Egypt
- Dedicate one entire morning exclusively to the West Bank starting at 6:00 AM sharp to clear the Valley of the Kings before the 9:00 AM cruise tour bus rush.
- Split your temple visits: see Karnak at first light for soft photography through the Hypostyle columns, and explore Luxor Temple after sunset when it is dramatically floodlit.
- Do not cram Dendera and Abydos into an already tight two-day stay; only add the drive north to Dendera's Hathor Temple if you have at least four full days.
- Cross the Nile via the public local ferry (docked near Luxor Temple) for a few Egyptian pounds instead of paying inflated rates for tourist motorboats.
- Buy additional access tickets for KV9 (Ramesses V/VI) or Seti I at the Valley of the Kings entrance—the standard ticket tombs rotate and are far less intact.
