A 10-day trip to Halifax, Nova Scotia
Maritime grit meets modern coastal dining on the edge of the North Atlantic.
Halifax balances the character of a fortified historic port with the energy of a thriving university and culinary town. Built steeply up from one of the deepest natural harbors in the world, the compact peninsula is instantly approachable on foot, with a 4-kilometer continuous boardwalk serving as the front porch to a scene powered by independent cider houses, historic pubs, and some of Canada's best seafood.

What your 10-day plan includes
- A day-by-day itinerary with neighborhoods clustered so you spend less time in transit.
- Real budget awareness — a target, an estimate, and a status you can dial up or down.
- Recommendations shaped by your pace, food priorities, group, and must-dos.
- Swap anything, improve any day, refine in any direction without starting over.
How to plan 10 days in Halifax, Nova Scotia
- Base yourself in Downtown Halifax or near Spring Garden Road if you want to walk everywhere without touching a car for the first 48 hours.
- Do not rent a car at the airport upon arrival; take the MetroX bus or a cab to your hotel and only rent a car on the morning you drive to the South Shore to avoid paying $35 to $50 daily downtown parking fees.
- Cross Halifax Harbour on the Alderney Ferry at sunset instead of paying for a private harbor cruise—it offers the exact same views for under $3 CAD.
- Avoid visiting Peggy's Cove between 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM during summer; drive out at 8:00 AM or after 5:00 PM to skip the tour bus caravans and explore the granite rocks in peace.
- Reserve weekend dinners in the North End (especially on Agricola and Gottingen streets) at least one to two weeks in advance during summer and autumn.
