A 7-day trip to Andong, South Korea
Living Joseon-era clan traditions, masked satire, and slow-simmered regional feasts.
Andong is South Korea's cultural counterweight to the neon and bullet-train pacing of Seoul and Busan. Rooted around the sweeping bend of the Nakdong River, this provincial hub remains the historical fortress of Korean Confucianism and ancestral clan estates. Travelers come here not for polished tourist recreation, but to walk through genuine centuries-old thatched and tiled villages where descendants of noble families still reside, watch raw and sharp-witted masked folk theatre, and eat fiery chicken stew in covered market alleys.

- Pair your trip with Gyeongju (1 hour south by bus/train) for an unbroken deep dive into Silla and Joseon dynastic history.

- Reserve KTX-Eum train seats from Seoul Cheongnyangni Station at least two weeks ahead for Friday evening or weekend departures.
- Time your visit to Hahoe Village around the free weekend Hahoe Byeolsingut Talnori masked dance performance (typically 14:00).
